Start a Dog Trainer Business

Many people express interest in the field of dog training, but are unsure of how to get started, or what qualifications are required.  This article aims to clarify the process.

The first thing to know is that training dogs is primarily about working with people, so prospective trainers must enjoy interacting with people on a daily basis.  In short, trainers teach people to train their own dogs:  very few trainers actually train the dog.  A love of learning is required, as well as patience and understanding of a variety of learning styles.

Secondly, “trainer” is not a defined term.  Anyone can call themselves a “trainer,” since no federal or state certification is required at this time (more information on available certification will be discussed below), so finding qualified professionals to learn from is crucial.

Read books on the subject. Since there is no formal educational program in dog training, your best source of knowledge is to read books that have published by professionals in the field. These books will give you the fundamental knowledge required to effectively communicate and teach dogs, as well as give you more information about the profession.

  • You should read books on the science of animal behavior as well as books on the profession of dog training itself. Be sure that the books you read about animal behavior have proper scientific backing. The following books are recommended by the Humane Society for aspiring dog trainers:
  • Don't Shoot The Dog! by Karen Pryor
  • Excel-erated Learning by Pam Reid
  • So You Want To Be A Dog Trainer by Nicole Wilde
  • Coaching People To Train Their Dogs by Terry Ryan

Volunteer at a local animal shelter. This will give you an opportunity to develop and improve your dog-handling skills by learning to deal with many unfamiliar dogs at once.

Sign up for a local dog training class. If you don't want to participate in the class, ask the teacher if you can sit in and observe. This will give you a chance to observe a professional dog trainer and pick up on his or her teaching style. Bring your dog with you, if you have one, so that you can actively participate in the class.

    4
Work as an apprentice with a dog trainer. This is the best way to learn the profession since there are very few formal dog training courses. Find a local dog trainer or ask somebody you already know who is a dog trainer whether you can apprentice for them. Apprentices sit in on classes, assist in teaching, and gradually lead classes under supervision of the teacher.

Find a job. Once you have done the necessary reading and completed your apprenticeship, look for animal shelters or training schools in your area that are currently hiring trainers.

Team Work - Meaning and Tips for better Team Work

A single brain is not always capable of making key decisions on its own. To come up with an efficient solution, an individual requires the help and advice of others. A team is established when individuals get together on a common platform with the common goal of completing a task. To guarantee optimum compatibility, team members should ideally come from similar backgrounds and have a single aim. To provide their best, the team members must complement each other and function as a single unit in tight cooperation. "There is no I in Team Work," as the saying goes, and each member must put the needs of his team first. Personal interests must take a second seat. Any team's performance is directly proportionate to the relationship between its members and their combined efforts. What is the definition of teamwork? Teamwork is defined as the sum of each team member's efforts toward the fulfilment of the team's goal. In other words, any team's backbone is its ability t

Scientists discover a new theory / The fundamental property of light – 150 years after Maxwell

Light plays a vital role in our everyday lives and technologies based on light are all around us. So we might expect that our understanding of light is pretty settled. But scientists have just uncovered a new fundamental property of light that gives new insight into the 150-year-old classical theory of electromagnetism and which could lead to applications manipulating light at the nanoscale. It is unusual for a pure-theory physics paper to make it into the journal Science. So when one does, it’s worth a closer look. In the new study, researchers bring together one of physics' most venerable set of equations – those of James Clerk’s Maxwell’s famous theory of light – with one of the hot topics in modern solid-state physics: the quantum spin Hall effect and topological insulators . To understand what the fuss is about, let’s first consider the behaviour of electrons in the quantum spin Hall effect. Electrons possess an intrinsic spin as if they were tiny spinning-tops,
