What is a Glass wool?
Glass wool (UK) or fiberglass insulation (US) is an insulating material made from fibres of glass arranged into a texture similar to wool. Glass wool is produced in rolls or in slabs, with different thermal and mechanical properties.
What is a Glass wool Plant?
The services of WOLTZ GmbH for the design and supply of production plants for insulation glass wool include:
- Plant layout
- Plant engineering
- Turnkey construction
- Feasibility study and consultancy services
- Project planning, design and evaluation
- Procurement and commissioning
- Installation and erection of equipment
We offer on-site training on our reference partners' premises and are prepared to commission your glass wool plant.Depending on our customers' requirements, we either assist in the erection of the equipment or carry out the complete assembly and erection.
Manufacturing process of Glass Wool plant?
After the mixture of natural sand and recycled glass at 1,450 °C, the glass that is produced is converted into fibers. It is typically produced in a method similar to making cotton candy, forced through a fine mesh by centripetal force, cooling on contact with the air. The cohesion and mechanical strength of the product is obtained by the presence of a binder that “cements” the fibers together. Ideally, a drop of bonder is placed at each fiber intersection. This fiber mat is then heated to around 200 °C to polymerize the resin and is calendered to give it strength and stability. The final stage involves cutting the wool and packing it in rolls or panels under very high pressure before palletizing the finished product in order to facilitate transport and storage.
Glass Wool Production Plants
The production of insulating glass wool materials requires a very sophisticated process from the preparation of raw materials ending with the finished product packaging.Raw materials crushed in proper size, are stored in storage silos, and then fed to the furnace in the correct sequence and ratio by means of a weighing and feeding system. The furnace melts the raw materials, which flow from a pouring spout to the fiberizing section through an adjustable channel.Centrifugal machines “off-center” type transform the melted material into thin fibres by the action of centrifugal power and hot air pressure.Fibres are blown away from the spinner, sprayed with binding agent and then deposited on a forming conveyor as a primary wool layer. In order to obtain a felt with a required area weight (to insure different densities of the final product), the speed of the forming conveyor, and therefore of the entire production line, is adjusted accordingly. The felt is sent to the processing line. The felt enters the curing oven, where binder is polymerized (cured) and the required thickness is given to the final product. Curing oven speed is synchronised with the speed of forming conveyor.
The Product coming out from curing oven is cooled, trimmed on both sides, lined on its bottom side, cut at a pre set length, stitched and stacked or rolled, and finally packed automatically.Tecnomè, thanks to a team of qualified designers with extensive experience in the industry, is able to provide a complete solution package, starting from the production line transforming the raw materials into primary fiber, and ending with the packaging line of the finished product. The production line capacities are in the range of 10 to 50 tons per day. The products manufactured are coupled with laminates of different types according to the best European standards.
Uses of Glass Wool Plants
We offer high quality glass wool felt in rolls that is soft, waterproof and fireproof with good elasticity (a veneer of reinforced aluminum foil can be applied), providing an ideal thermal and sound insulation for steel structure constructions. The glass wool felt offers the advantages of low material cost, short work cycles and fine appearance. It is also friendly for worker safety as it is non-toxic and non-irritant to skin.Glass wool boards are widely used as insulation material for exterior and interior walls. In addition to its characteristic advantage in thermal insulation, it is excellent in noise reduction. The latter property makes it an ideal choice for wall partition in conference rooms, hotels and residential homes. The material is light and thin, which allows more space as useful floor area.
Market View of Glass Wool Plants
Centrifugal glass wool is a silk-like material made by fiberization in the TEL process and spraying of thermosetting resin. Glass wool is non-combustible, non-toxic, and resistant to corrosion. It has low weight by volume, low thermal conductivity, stable chemical property, and low moisture absorption rate due to its excellent hydrophobicity. Thanks to its intertwined flexible fibers, glass wool is the best insulating material against noise, cold and heat and also offers excellent fire-resistant properties. The panel, felt, and pipe products made of glass wool have been used in the industries of construction, chemical, electronic, energy, metallurgy and communication.
