Azzam
Azzam (English: Resolute) is a private superyacht built by German shipyard Lürssen Yachts. Azzam was launched on 5 April 2013. At 180 meters (590 ft) in length, it is the largest private motor yacht in the world. It has a beam of 20.8 meters (68 ft) and an unusually shallow draft of 4.3 m (14 ft 1 in). The yacht was delivered on 9 September 2013.
Among many other features, the yacht has a main salon with a length of 29 m (95 ft) and a beam of 18 m (59 ft) with an open plan and no pillars. Carrying a submarine and her own missile defense system, it can travel in excess of 32 knots (59 km/h; 37 mph) powered by a combination of two gas turbines and two diesel engines with a total power output of 35,048 kW (47,000 hp) through four pump-jets. Two of the pump-jets are non-movable round water outlets in the middle of the stern, and two with thrust vectoring capabilities using moveable duct water outlets positioned on either side of the non-movable ones.
At an estimated cost of US$605 million, it cost approximately US$100 million more than the second-largest private motor yacht, Eclipse.
A
Sailing Yacht A is a sailing yacht launched in 2015. The vessel is a sail-assisted motor yacht designed by Philippe Starck (interiors, exteriors) and built by Nobiskrug in Kiel, Germany for the Russian billionaire industrialist and philanthropist Andrey Melnichenko.
Its propulsion consists of a variable-speed hybrid powerplant with two lineshaft controllable-pitch propellers that are sail-assisted by a three-mast fore-and-aft sailing rig. The freestanding carbon fiber rotating masts were manufactured by Magma Structures at Trafalgar Wharf, Portsmouth. Doyle Sailmakers USA manufactured the three fully automated carbon fiber/taffeta full roach sails. The furling booms were built in Valencia by Future Fibres. The rigging of this yacht was developed partially to be implemented on cargo ships and to be used for commercial use. The vessel features an underwater observation pod in the keel with 30 cm (12 in)-thick glass. It is the largest private sail-assisted motor yacht in the world.
Black Pearl
Black Pearl is a sailing yacht launched in 2016, which is 106.7 meters (350.1 ft) in length. It has three DynaRig masts supporting a sail area of 2,900 square meters (31,215 sq ft). The yacht was known during its build process originally as Oceanco Y712 and thereafter as "Project Solar". The hull is steel, the superstructure aluminum, and the masts carbon fiber.
It is expected that Black Pearl can cross the Atlantic using only 20 liters (4.4 imp gal; 5.3 US gal) of fuel, aided by regenerative technologies. One key technology to support this is to use the speed of the vessel through the water under sail to generate electricity with a variable pitch propeller. The yacht also features heat capture technologies and large scale storage batteries to capture energy generated but not immediately used.
MV Savarona
The MV Savarona (also sometimes M/Y, for a motor yacht) is the presidential yacht of the Republic of Turkey reserved for the use of the President of Turkey. She was the largest in the world when launched in 1931, and remains, with a length of 136 m (446 ft), one of the world’s longest. Although owned by the government of Turkey, she had been briefly leased out to Turkish businessman Kahraman SadıkoÄŸlu. However, upon orders of the Turkish Government, her lease was terminated and she reverted to the Turkish State. The MV Savarona is now the State Yacht of the Republic of Turkey and reserved for the use of the President. The first time she was used again for an official reception was in March 2015.
Savarona features a swimming pool, a Turkish bath, a 282-foot (86 m) gold-trimmed grand staircase that survived from her original construction, a movie theater, and a library suite dedicated to Atatürk, which is furnished with many of his personal artifacts. Under its charter operator, the yacht was available for charter including the crew but not provisions.
M/Y Eclipse
M/Y Eclipse is a superyacht built by Blohm+Voss of Hamburg, Germany. Her exterior and interior were designed by Terence Disdale. The yacht was delivered to Russian businessman Roman Abramovich on 9 December 2010. At 162.5 meters (533 ft 2 in) long Eclipse was the world's largest private yacht until the Azzam was launched in April 2013, which was 17.3 meters (56 ft 9 in) long. The yacht's cost has been estimated at €340 million.
Eclipse has two helicopter pads, 24 guest cabins, two swimming pools, several hot tubs, and a disco hall. It is also equipped with three launch boats and a mini-submarine that is capable of submerging to 50 meters (160 ft). Approximately 70 crew members are needed to operate the yacht and serve the guests.
For security, Eclipse is fitted with a missile detection system.
Eclipse is also the largest vessel employing a rotor-based stabilization system against roll motion at anchor and at low cruise speeds, based on the Magnus effect.
